THOSE WHO CAN'T PAINT, WRITE [ABOUT PAINTINGS].
Throughout my art history classes and various art world internships, I've been lucky enough to write art theory essays, artist bios, collection summaries, curatorial overviews, art news articles, consignment proposals, funding requests, painting descriptions, condition reports, and just about every other kind of art writing there is.
In my role on the Sotheby's Evening sale team, I'm tasked with writing many of the scholarly essays that accompany our Evening sale rockstars every season. I'm convinced catalogue writing is the best kind of art writing for true ARTH #fangirls: with every work, you get to figure out what the exact details that make it special, and why those details make this particular artist and artwork matter. Linked below are a few of my favorite works and essays from the last couple years, if you'd like to know more.
